Reflection Chapter 2 & 3
It’s amazing to see how far education has come. It’s interesting to know education wasn’t all about your regular math, science, and reading; the first educational system that started in Greece was centered on developing ideals of courage, patriotism, and strength. Sounds more like gym class to me. I guess, as a future educator, knowing the history of education can show you how to be successful and at the same time avoid repeating educational failures. It made me realize how important education really is in our society and around the world. I mean that’s the whole point in life…to serve and improve humankind, right? Humans wouldn’t be where they are today without these educators and the progress of education, literally…I can’t even imagine a world without education.
I never really realized how big the educational system really is. I’m always thinking about the grade I’m in and not really paying attention to the fact that there’s also children in school as well as adults. Not to mention the population is growing out of control. In one of the classes I volunteer in, it has 26 students for just one kindergarten class, in high school I remember I had a class with 30 students. No wonder why programs for students with special needs have increased…there’s probably no one on one time with the teacher. I also have to wonder how involved the government really is with education. This book says the government has increased its involvement but I really don’t see much improvement.
